Welcome to Food Services

The Food Services department is dedicated to the health and well being of students. We want to support learning by promoting healthy habits for lifelong nutritional habits.  All food served at ASA schools meet state and federal requirements which are based on the USDA Dietary Guidelines. Students are provided with access to a variety of food that meets health and nutritional needs.

Allegiance STEAM Academy is a participant in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Program called the Community Eligibility Provision.

National School Lunch and Breakfast Program
Allegiance STEAM Academy Thrive participates in the National School Lunch Program and/or School Breakfast Program by offering nutritious meals every school day.

Beginning in School Year (SY) 2022–23, California became the first state to implement a statewide Universal Meals Program for all school children. California’s Universal Meals Program is designed to build on the foundations of the federal National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and School Breakfast Program (SBP). California’s State Meal Mandate is expanded to include both a nutritiously adequate breakfast and lunch for all children each school day.

There are three key pillars that have been established to ensure that the program is a success:

  1. California’s Universal Meals Program requires very high poverty schools to participate in a federal provision.
  2. The California State Legislature allocates funds to provide additional state meal reimbursement to cover the cost of the Universal Meals Program.
  3. To support the implementation of the California Universal Meals Program, the California Department of Education (CDE) Nutrition Services Division (NSD) is scheduling a series of informational listening sessions, creating a universal meals web page with resources, and collecting frequently asked questions (FAQ) through our universal meals mailbox UniversalMealsSY22@cde.ca.gov.

Sun Bucks Summer Food Program for Eligible Families

SUN Bucks is a program from the California Department of Social Services, in partnership with the California Department of Education, that helps families with school-age children buy groceries during the summer months when kids might not have access to school meals. If your household income is less than 185% of the Federal level, children in your household may be eligible for the SUN Bucks Summer EBT Card Program.

Participating families will receive $120 for each eligible child on a card that can be used to  buy food during the summer at grocery stores, farmers markets, and other authorized retailers.  SUN Bucks provides $40 per month for food for June, July and August ($120 total) and works just like CalFresh. Participating in SUN Bucks does not affect a family’s immigration status.

If you think your children are eligible, you can receive Summer EBT by filling out the online Free/Reduced Meal Elibility Form or submit a hard copy version of this Free / Reduced Meal Eligibility Form. Please be sure to complete the form as soon as possible, in order to receive benefits for this summer, if eligible.

Parents/Guardians are strongly encouraged to update/review their home address in the school information system, as the address in the school’s system is where the state of California will mail Summer EBT cards. ASA does not have a role in the physical distribution of the Summer EBT cards.

In addition to Summer EBT/SUN Bucks the children under 18 years of age in your household can also receive free meals during the summer at a summer meal site. Site information will be made available once confirmed.

If you have questions, you can contact California EBT Support and Assistance at (877) 328-9677.
